Marina Beach

Marina is the second longest beach in world.The beautiful promenade was constructed in 1884. It has broad road with wide sandy beach.There are lot of government buildings .A swimming pool & an aquarium is also present here.You can enjoy the warm breeze,chats with lot of eatables,pony ridings, walks,shopings and lot of entertainments for children.

Coming from the famous 'Gemini Flyover' towards Kodambakkam high road is the modern memorial recently built Valluvar kottam,built in memory of the greatest saint-poet 'Thiru Valluvar' who wrote the famous 'Thirukural'.The 1330 kurals were embedded in the marble pillars. There is a larger auditorium where devotional,cultural & exhibitions are organized.

Vandalur Zoo

The Vandalur zoological park is about 30 kms from the city. It is spread over 300 hectares.Animals are kept in large open enclosures.Aquariums,Children trains & pollution free battery operated buses adds a greater enjoyments.

The Guindy deer & snake park is next to Gandhi mandapam. It is a vast open space with lot of snakes & few animals on display. There are lot of deers here.In snake park there is a large collection of reptiles.Obtaining of Poison from the cobra is also displayed for the public on selected days of the week.

The Egmore Muesuem

The Egmore Muesuem has rare exhibits of weapons, Uniforms, Coins, Costumes, Medals and other artifacts dating to the British period. The museums possessions are the relics from the 2nd Century A.D. Buddhist Site at Amaravathi & Pre historic exhibits from the stone & Iron ages. The bronze gallery with its ancient icons and modern bronze is perhaps the best in the world.

Mamallapuram is aout 40Kms.from Cityi, situated on the shores of the Bay of Bengal,which was once a part of the Pallavas. The Pallavas have created many marvellous monuments with Sculptural Panels, Caves, Monolithic Rathas and Temples.These monumental splendours and sunny beach resorts attract Tourists from all over the world. There are lot places to visit on the way to Mahalipuram like the crocodile bank, the theme parks in Injambakkam ,etc.

Memorials of Leaders

All the memorials are bulit in Guindy to honour the freedom fighters of India.The great freedom fighter of India Thiru 'Kappal Ottiya Thamizhan'Va.Vo.Si's grinding stone is here,which is from the British period.The Anna square is opposite to the Universiry of Madras.

It is in Beasant Nagar.The crowd is very less when compared to Marina.There are holy places like Ashtalakshmi Temple,Velankanni Church near this beach.This beach is for silent place lovers.

It is situated in Taramani which is near the famous IT parks like 'Tidel Park','Elnet City'.In the film city we can see the making of Indian films.

Kalakshetra

In Thiruvanmiyur, beyond Elliot's beach, is Kalakshetra of 'Temple of Art'. It was founded in 1936 by Rukmini Devi Arundale to train, encourage and revive interest in Bharatanatyam which is the classical dance form of the state. This institution is among the finest of its kind in the country and is run on the ancient gurukulam system.

This Birla Planetarium is situated in Kotturprram.It is the most modern planetarium in the country. It houses a modern fully computerised projector which depicts the heavens on a hemispherical dome. The Planetarium presents to the visiting public and students, audio-visual programmes on various themes in astronomy. Adjoining the Planetarium is the Periyar Science and Technology Museum which is of interest to students and other science enthusiasts.

Its about 30 Kms. from the city on the way to Mamallapuram.TTDC (Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation) is running a boat house here. Wind surfing, canoe, kayak, pedal boat, row boat etc. are available for the public. Restaurant facility is also available.
A good place to get away for a day.
